Samsung Medical Center Molecular Pathology Symposium was held on June 16, 2012, at the Samsung Medical Center Cancer Center. Through advancements in medical technology, the necessity of molecular pathology, an important field to integrate life science and clinical medicine, has been growing in recent years. Using DNA and RNA of tissues and cells, molecular pathology provides important information for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and infectious diseases and monitoring of patients following an operation. The symposium was held to share accumulated know-how by pathology specialists, bioscience researchers and molecular pathology technicians. Also, various topics were introduced such as personalized medicine, a new medicinal technology assessment system and new molecular pathology test criteria. Seegene highlighted the importance of molecular pathology testing in the thyroid papillocarcinoma diagnosis by exhibiting a BRAF gene mutation testing product that can increase the accuracy of thyroid papillocarcinoma diagnosis when combined with fine needle aspiration biopsy.
