Seegene participates in exhibition of 2016 Annual Spring Meeting of The Korean Society of Pathologists

May 20, 2016

?
From May 19 to 20, Seegene participated in the 65th Meeting of Korean Division of IAP and 41th Annual Spring Meeting of The Korean Society of Pathologists (KSP) at Del Pino Golf & Resort in Goseong, Gangwon-do.
?
At this year’s KSP Annual Spring Meeting, Seegene introduced its product that screens for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), which is resistant to clarithromycin, using the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) method.
?
Over half of Korean adults are known to be infected with H. pylori, a leading cause of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcers. With the recent increase in the number of H. pylori infections, and the resistance to antibiotic treatments that these infections have demonstrated, the eradication rate is showing a consistent decline. In response to this phenomenon, pre-treatment antibiotic resistance testing as a means of increasing the effectiveness of prescribed eradication treatments is gaining increasing attention.
?
Seegene’s new product uses stomach tissue collected from the patient through a biopsy to test for genetic mutations that may cause drug resistance solely through the PCR method. This screening product is considerably more sensitive than any existing products and features a relatively simple testing procedure, making it much easier use.
?
In March 2016, the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Health Insurance Policy Evaluation Committee voted in favor of an insurance payment category to cover screenings for mutated strains of H. pylori that exhibit clarithromycin resistance. This new payment category will be officially announced in Ausgust.
