Seegene receives STOP TB Outstanding Partner Award

Nov 25, 2015

?

On November 25, the 2nd “STOP TB Partnership Korea Night” was held at FKI Tower in Seoul, Korea. Organized by the STOP-TB Partnership KOREA (STBK), the purpose of the event was for individuals from all levels of Korean society who have worked hard to eradicate tuberculosis to gather together in an effort to come up with new strategies for mutual cooperation with the goal of creating a “world without tuberculosis.”

The event included a presentation ceremony for the Outstanding Partner Award in recognition of partner corporations and organizations that made the most significant contributions to international activities in 2015. Seegene was a joint recipient of the award, together with the Seegene Medical Foundation, Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation, and Janssen Korea. The award recognized the combined efforts of its three award winners in creating regular programs for international tuberculosis management (begun last September with the launch of a local tuberculosis eradication program in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia).

As its contribution to the tuberculosis eradication program in Ulaanbaatar, carried out through Korea-Mongolia cooperation, Seegene provided molecular diagnostic equipment, equipped with the latest multiplex real-time PCR, and medication for tuberculosis to be used to help fight its spread among university students and poverty of Mongolia who are vulnerable to the disease. Seegene is also funding efforts to strengthen local capabilities to diagnose tuberculosis as well as the training of healthcare personnel. In particular, the diagnostic equipment provided by Seegene for this program is capable of conducting the simultaneous detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and 38 mutations associated with MDR-TB in a single test, thereby screening for tuberculosis pathogens and identifying multi-drug resistance all at the same time. The equipment also enables the diagnosis of tuberculosis in the early stages.
