Seegene shares hope by delivering coal briquettes to the local community in need

Dec 03, 2016

On December 3, 2016, 40 Seegene employees and executives worked together to deliver coal briquettes to individual households in Guryong Village, a shantytown in Seoul’s Gangnam district, as a part of the company’s efforts to support the local community.

The Seegene staff members delivered over 4,500 briquettes to senior citizens living alone and low-income families. Carried out based entirely on the voluntary efforts of employees, Seegene’s annual briquette delivery began in 2014 and is in its third run this year. Delivery of coal briquettes - this highly meaningful opportunity to provide some much-needed assistance to those in need, became an annual event of the company.

A new employee who was participating in the briquette delivery activity for the first time expressed her feeling as“It was definitely hard work, because the briquettes were heavier than I expected. But it was very satisfying to know that the elderly residents would not have to worry as much about the cost of heating their homes this winter. Participating in this activity made me feel very proud to be a member of the Seegene family.”

All the funds raised by the Seegene staff members were used to purchase not only briquettes but also bags of rice, and both were personally delivered to families who are needed in Guryong Village.

The Seegene staff in charge of organizing this year’s event said,“Our small act of community service today was a truly valuable opportunity for us to think about the nature of sharing. The participation of the families and friends of the Seegene staff involved made it even more special. Everyone reaffirmed their belief that love for our fellow citizen starts with a single act. I hope that many more such activities will be undertaken in the future, and that these activities will lead society as a whole to take greater interest in the plight of vulnerable and marginalized groups.”
